Columbia Anti-Semitism, Class-Action Lawsuit

Class action lawsuit hits "Squad" over Columbia campus anti-Semitism

Columbia students target Reps Bowman, Omar, and Ocasio-Cortez for their alleged role in fueling antisemitic protests.

Three prominent progressive politicians—Reps Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jamaal Bowman, and Ilhan Omar—are facing a class-action lawsuit for their alleged role in encouraging antisemitic protests at Columbia University, according to the New York Post.

The lawsuit, filed by five anonymous Columbia students, names the three lawmakers among a dozen groups linked to the anti-Israel demonstrations that took place on campus in April. Two of the students who initiated the legal action are Jewish.

The suit condemns the "Gaza Encampment" as “extreme and outrageous,” claiming it violated university rules and led to harassment, intimidation, and bullying of Jewish students. The plaintiffs argue that the protests disrupted academic life for Columbia's 36,000 students.

The legal documents criticize the protests for promoting violence and threats against Jews. One Jewish student recounted an incident where he was targeted for wearing a yarmulke and physically assaulted by a protest leader.

The lawsuit also targets anti-Israel organizations like Within Our Lifetime, which were involved in the encampments. The April 17 protest marked a significant increase in antisemitic incidents on campus following the October 7 Hamas massacre.

Protesters allegedly chanted threats of repeated violence against Jews and displayed signs calling for the murder of Jewish students.
