Paul Abbate, the FBI’s deputy director, informed senators on Tuesday about a troubling discovery regarding Thomas Crooks, the gunman responsible for wounding former President Donald Trump. According to Abbate, Crooks is believed to have maintained a social media account featuring antisemitic and anti-immigration posts.
The account, active during 2019 and 2020, reportedly contained over 700 posts reflecting extreme views and advocating for political violence. Although Abbate stressed that the account has not been definitively linked to Crooks, he chose to disclose the information due to the lack of other substantial data about the shooter’s motives and mindset.
Abbate indicated that the FBI is working to verify whether the account indeed belonged to Crooks and promised that further details would be released once confirmation is made. He also mentioned that there is an additional account associated with Crooks on Gab, a platform known for its association with far-right and extremist content.
