A day after the dramatic retirement of U.S. President Joe Biden and his endorsement of Kamala Harris as his successor in the presidential elections, Vice President Harris made her first public statement today (Monday) at the White House, addressing the events and acknowledging Biden for his work.

"Joe Biden wanted to be here today; he feels much better," Harris said at an event honouring college athletes in the U.S. "Biden's legacy and achievements over the past 3 years are unprecedented in modern history. In one term, he has already surpassed the legacies of most presidents who have served two terms in the White House."

"I got to know President Biden through his son, with whom we worked together as attorneys in the Department of Justice. He would tell me stories about his father, and the qualities he admired in him are the things I see every day in his work as president – his preparedness, integrity, commitment to family and country, his big heart, and his great love for America," she added. "I have seen for myself how much President Biden has worked for our country every day, and we are all deeply grateful for his service to our nation."
