The US vice president clarified that she rejects some of the rhetoric from campus demonstrators, amidst speculation about her potential as a replacement for Biden should he exit the election race.

United States Vice President Kamala Harris has shown empathy towards the anti-Israel protesters who have set up campus encampments across colleges nationwide, while clarifying her disagreement with some of their stances, amidst increasing speculation about her potential candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Kamala Harris remarked in an interview with The Nation, "Young Americans protesting Israel's conflict against the Hamas in Gaza are "showing exactly what human emotion should be".

She clarified that “there are things some of the protesters are saying that I absolutely reject, so I don’t mean to wholesale endorse their points. But we have to navigate it. I understand the emotion behind it.”

The remarks coincided with extensive discussions about Harris potentially assuming the Democratic presidential candidacy in November, even though the interview occurred before the president's disappointing debate performance last month, which prompted renewed calls for him to withdraw.
