The Labour party won a resounding victory in yesterday's elections in the United Kingdom (Thursday), winning around 410 seats and a large majority in the British Parliament, according to the BBC.

The incumbent Conservative party, meanwhile has been dealt its worst electoral defeat since 1906 and will now have only slightly over 100 seats in Parliament.

Per the BBC vote tracker, Labour's victory was due less to its increase of its vote share and more to a collapse in support for the Conservatives, which largely split between the Reform, Green, and Liberal Democratic Parties.

President Herzog posted a message of congratulations for Starmer and a message of thanks for outgoing Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on X:

"I send my warmest congratulations to Keir Starmer. As he prepares to enter Downing Street as Prime Minister, I look forward to working together with him and his new government to bring our hostages home, to build a better future for the region, and to deepen the close friendship between Israel and the United Kingdom.

I also express my deepest appreciation and gratitude to outgoing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak for his leadership and for standing with the Israeli people especially during this most difficult period."
