Germany's Christian Democratic Party (CDU), the largest opposition party and the one currently leading in the polls, is calling for a sea change in Germany's policy towards Iran and the IRGC, according to Israel Hayom.

During the tenure of Prime Minister Angela Merkel, the party's former leader, the party took a much softer and more lenient line towards Iran and its proxies, and now her own party is changing tack.

A paper drafted by CDU legislators calls for the EU to designate the IRGC as a terrorist group with all attendant legal and monetary sanctions. It also calls for the formation of an alliance with moderate anti-Iranian states such as Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States. In addition, the papers emphasized the necessity of being much more forceful against Iran's nuclear program.
