The UN Security Council will vote this Friday on making the Palestinian Authority a full member of the UN following the Palestinians' request to discuss the issue. If a majority is achieved, Israel will need an American veto to prevent the UN from recognizing a Palestinian state.

The Council will also convene today (Thursday) for a special open discussion that will deal with the Middle East in which the Secretary-General will be briefed and foreign ministers of Iran, the European Union, Jordan, Malta and other foreign ministers will participate. Israel's ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, will speak at the debate, as he is expected to strongly attack the Palestinian request and the council's preoccupation with the Palestinian issue which, according to him is, "a huge reward for terrorism that proves that the council is acting exactly according to the script that [Hamas leader Yahya] Sinwar wrote for it."

"The Security Council, which to this day has not condemned the October 7 massacre and has not devoted even one discussion (!) to discuss the release of hostages and promote resolutions placing pressure on Hamas to release them - is investing its time in promoting the establishment of a Palestinian terrorist state at a time when this is a huge reward for terrorism," said Erdan. "Any country that votes in favor of the Palestinian request will prove that it only has foreign political considerations in mind and not any security or moral consideration."

According to him, "If the Security Council decides to recommend full membership to the Palestinian Authority, which incites and finances terrorism and has no control over its territory - it deserves to be called the 'Terrorism Council' of the UN and not the 'Security Council.'"
