American Secretary of State Anthony Blinken met yesterday (Wednesday) with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and noted that relations between the countries are "stronger than ever."
The two met amid the crisis between Israel and Brazil after the South American president compared Israel to Hitler. In a tweet, Blinken wrote, "I met with the president of Brazil da Silva ahead of the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting. Brazil is a key partner on many issues including combatting the climate crisis and advancing human and labor rights. As we approach 200 years of US-Brazil relations, our ties are stronger than ever."
As you may recall, at the beginning of the week, Lula caused a stir when he accused Israel of committing "genocide" against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip and compared its actions to Adolf Hitler's campaign to exterminate European Jewry.
