Fire was opened on the crowd gathered near the municipal train station during an event celebrating the Kansas Chiefs Super Bowl win. A woman was pronounced dead and dozens, including several children, were injured in the melee.
The festival celebrating the Super Bowl victory in Kansas City was abruptly interrupted when gunfire was opened towards people participating in the festival. According to reports, one woman was killed as a result of the shooting, while at least 20 others were injured, including about seven children.
According to local networks, at around 2pm local time when the festival was at its peak and members of the Chiefs were standing on stage together with the mayor of Kansas City, shots began to be heard from the direction of the adjacent municipal train station.
This caused panic as people in the crowd attempted to flee the scene, trying to find cover from the shooting. More than 20 people were injured, some from the shooting, and others from the trampling that ensued, and one woman was killed in the incident.
Police have reportedly arrested three suspects in connection with the shooting, but cannot provide further information regarding the motives for the incident or the individuals behind it.
