Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein stated that the Iranian missile strike on Erbil was simply because "the Iranians can't attack Israel, so they look around for victims and attack Erbil," according to Kann 11 News reporter Roi Kais.

Iraq has also expressed its protest against the strike, which Iranians claimed was against a "Mossad base" in the area, by filing identical letters of complaint with UN Secretary-General and the President of the UN Security Council, according to reporter Barzan Sadiq.

Sadiq also reported that the Arab League passed a resolution strongly condemning Iran for the attack on Erbil and supporting Iraq's efforts to seek redress via the UN Security Council.

The attack on Erbil was one of a number of Iranian missile strikes against neighboring countries, on the claimed grounds that they were targeting Israeli or Israel-related targets, including a missile strike on Pakistani territory. Pakistan condemned the attack and withdrew its ambassador.
