Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi reacted this evening (Monday) to the death of Seyyed Reza Mousavi, commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards in Syria, who according to reports in Iran was killed in an attack attributed to Israel in Damascus. In his words he threatened that Israel "will pay the price for his elimination."
According to Raisi, "There is no doubt that this action is another sign of the frustration, the helplessness and the inability of the occupying Zionist regime to live in the Middle East. There is no doubt that they will pay the price for this elimination."
Simultaneously, Iran's Foreign Ministry said that "We condemn this terrorism and see it as another sign of Israel's character. The assassination is a continuation of Israel's crimes, which violates all international laws. Tehran reserves the right to respond to this crime at the appropriate time and place."
In the meantime, Israel is preparing for the possibility of a response from Iran in the north, with the security system being on alert in recent hours. The war cabinet will meet tonight and is expected to discuss the situation on the northern front, alongside the previously planned discussion on the contacts with Egypt and Qatar and their proposals for a ceasefire in Gaza.
As mentioned, in Syria it was reported earlier today about explosions that were heard in the Shiite quarter in the southeast of Damascus, which they claim is an Israeli attack. Iran later confirmed that Mousavi was killed in an explosion that occurred as a result of an airstrike at his home. Mousavi was a close associate of the former commander of the Revolutionary Guards, Qassem Soleimani, and served as the commander of the Iranian forces in Syria.
Simultaneously, it was claimed that two weapons depots of Hezbollah and the Iranian militias in the area of Sayyidah Zaynab were attacked by Israel. According to the Syrian Center for the Monitoring of Human Rights, these areas are located near the electronic warfare administration of the Syrian regime. It was also claimed that there were reports of deaths on the spot, when ambulances were heard in the area after the attack.
