Israel's ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, held a special event today (Monday) at the UN to expose the horrors and shocking acts of sexual violence committed by Hamas terrorists against Israeli women in the October 7th massacre.
At the event, Ambassador Erdan and Sheryl Sandberg, the former chief operating officer of Facebook, spoke. A recorded speech by the former US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, was screened. Members of medical teams, police and lawyers also spoke at the event and described findings proving the atrocities committed by Hamas against women. About 700 ambassadors and diplomats, representatives of UN agencies, Jewish organizations and civil society organizations came to the event.
Among his words, Erdan said that "On the 7th of October, Hamas committed acts of rape and sexual violence against Israeli women and girls. After that, they walked with their naked bodies in the streets of Gaza while the crowd cheered. These were not spur-of-the-moment decisions at the scene of the massacre. The sex crimes were carefully planned in advance! The Nazi Hamas terrorists were told explicitly and in advance to carry out these evil deeds, in order to terrorize us and our families and make us afraid to live in Israel."
Erdan: "In the eyes of the women's organizations, rape of Israeli women is not rape"
The ambassador criticized the UN and the UN Women's Organization: "The international bodies that are supposed to protect women in the world have proven that when it comes to Israeli women - they are indifferent. In the eyes of these organizations, Israeli women are not women and the rape of Israeli women is not rape. Their silence is deafening!"
"Last month," said Erdan, "I sent UN Women two letters with photographic evidence of Hamas crimes against women and both were completely ignored. Only two days ago, almost two months after the massacre, UN Women suddenly remembered to address the sex crimes in a shameful way, but it is too little and too late.
"Instead of immediately supporting the victims, UN Women brazenly proposed to 'investigate the sexual violence of Hamas through an antisemitic and biased organization.'" The ambassador clarified: "The only investigation that really must be carried out is an investigation of UN Women's indifferent silence to the heinous crimes committed by Hamas against Israeli women."
Ambassador Erdan stated: "If the UN chooses to remain silent in the face of evil, it does not mean that the world will follow suit. The world will know the truth! We will make sure to play it everywhere. The stories of the women of Israel will not be silenced!"
