Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke today (Monday) with Argentina's president-elect Javier Millay. This is the first conversation between the two since Millay's victory in the presidential elections a few weeks ago, and towards his inauguration as president this coming Sunday.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, "In the friendly conversation that took place between the two a short time ago, Netanyahu congratulated President-elect Millay on his victory in the elections, and thanked him for his support for the State of Israel in its war against the terrorist organization Hamas. The Prime Minister told the President-elect that he is a true friend of the Jewish people. Also, the prime minister thanked the president-elect for his intention to move the Argentine embassy to Jerusalem, and invited him to visit Israel."

As mentioned, Javier Millay was elected president of Argentina last month after registering a surprising victory in the elections, beating his opponent Sergio Massa in two rounds of voting. Millay was nicknamed the "Argentine Trump", when he promised as part of the election campaign to abolish the country's central bank and declared that he would "suppress the cancer of inflation".

Throughout the election campaign, Millay expressed support for Israel and condemned the terrorism of Hamas, when he even met several times with senior rabbis of the Jewish community in Argentina. A few days before the elections, Millay participated in a demonstration of support for Israel in Buenos Aires, where he was recorded waving the Israeli flag to the applause and singing of the surrounding crowd.
