Foreign Minister Eli Cohen spoke today (Wednesday) with Red Cross President Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, clarifying that Israel demands the organization do its job and see to the well-being of hundreds of hostages in Gaza being held by Hamas. Cohen rejected the organization’s present balanced approach.

“The Red Cross has no right to exist if it cannot visit the hostages held as captives by the Hamas terror organization. This is an unusual event in the international arena where children, women, and Holocaust survivors are being held captive,” said Cohen. “The Red Cross needs to act with determination and a clear voice and with all its pressure levers to visit the hostages as soon as possible.”

He also said that “the Red Cross should focus on the greatest humanitarian catastrophe which the Hamas terror organization is imposing on Gaza and not the State of Israel, a state committed to international law and following it.”
