A new front in the war? The Houthi army in Yemen declared this evening (Tuesday) that they are “officially” joining the war against Israel, after taking responsibility for launching a cruise missile from the Red Sea area towards Israel earlier today.

“We are entering the conflict from this day on the side of Gaza,” said the spokesperson of the Houthi army. “The battle of resistance is one at the level of decisions and techniques, and our missiles will outdo the American and Israeli systems.”

He claimed that “our forces did their job for Gaza and sent a series of ballistic missiles towards enemy targets. This is the third operation supporting our oppressed brothers in Gaza, and we will continue to carry out higher quality strikes with missiles and drones until the end of Israeli aggression.”

As reported earlier, IDF fighter planes were scrambled in the morning hours due to an aerial threat identified in the Red Sea region and intercepted hostile targets flying in the area. According to the army, all the threats were intercepted outside Israeli territory. No penetration of Israeli airspace was identified. Israel believes the source of the drone was from Yemen. It was later reported that a ground-to-ground ballistic missile launched towards Israel from the Red Sea region was successfully intercepted by the Arrow anti-missile system.

Reports from the last two weeks state that the Houthis, the Shiite arm in Yemen, launched a number of long-range missiles at Eilat. The missiles were intercepted by American and Saudi defense systems while still in the Red Sea area.

A few days ago, rockets exploded in the Taba area south of Eilat, leading to physical damage and casualties.
