Report: Lebanese Army deploying in Tyre

The move is reportedly a first step to deploying the army in additional areas throughout southern Lebanon.

The Lebanese Army has begun its deployment in southern Lebanon, bolstering its forces in the area of the city of Tyre, with the aim of ultimately expanding to other regions in southern Lebanon, according to al-Mayadeen.

The Lebanese Army faces a complex situation in trying to enforce a ceasefire and the demilitarization of southern Lebanon - meaning keeping Hezbollah north of the Litani River and dismantling and preventing the rearmament of the area - while also preventing the country from being swamped with refugees and terrorists from the renewed fighting in Syria.

Defense Minister Katz warned earlier that if the Lebanese Army did not take its obligations in southern Lebanon seriously, and if Hezbollah continues to violate the ceasefire, then the Lebanese state will no longer be immune from IDF strikes.
