Report: Syrian rebels were ready to attack a year ago. So why didn't they?

Syrian opposition forces told Reuters that they had been training and preparing for the current offensive to be launched a year ago, but it was delayed - this is why.

Syrian opposition sources said that their forces were trained and ready to launch the current offensive in the country a year ago, but that the IDF's war in Gaza and then in Lebanon forced a delay, according to Reuters.

Per one of the sources, it was felt that "it wouldn't look good" to be fighting in Syria while a war was going on in Lebanon and previously in Gaza, so the offensive was delayed. As soon as a ceasefire came into effect, the offensive went underway.

Opposition sources also said that IDF attacks in Lebanon drew away Hezbollah fighters from Syria, who were called back to Lebanon to help fight the IDF. As of the current moment, Hezbollah does not appear to be interested in sending the forces back to help Assad, as they did previously in the Syrian Civil War.
