The Israeli Knesset plenum has passed a bill in its second and third readings that enforces strict penalties for educational staff and institutions linked to supporting terrorism.

Introduced by MK Tzvika Foghel (Otzma Yehudit) and MK Amit Halevi (Likud), the legislation allows the Ministry of Education to take decisive action against schools and educators found supporting or sympathizing with terrorist groups.

Under this bill, the Minister of Education can partially or fully withdraw funding from schools where terrorism-supporting views are identified, while the Ministry’s Director General gains authority to dismiss educational staff who endorse terrorism without prior warning.

These measures will be incorporated into the State Education Law, the Civil Service Law, and the Schools Supervision Law.

MK Foghel commented on the bill’s significance, stating, “Teachers hold immense influence over children and youth in Israeli educational institutions. This bill ensures that educators do not misuse that influence to foster support for terrorism and that schools do not permit such actions.”
