UAV explosion changes PM's plans

Before Visiting Metula: UAV Explosion Forces Netanyahu to Alter Plans

Just 20 minutes prior to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's scheduled arrival in Metula, a UAV exploded in the area, prompting security officials to adjust his itinerary. As a result, Netanyahu had to cancel his visit to the town located on the Lebanese border.

The explosion occurred shortly before he was due to arrive, leading to a shift in plans.

In response to claims that he opted not to meet with northern residents during his visit, the Prime Minister's Office stated: "Contrary to misleading media reports, Prime Minister Netanyahu did not request to cancel his visit to Metula today." They added that "the opposite is true—he has consistently sought to engage with communities in the field, but security agencies have prevented him."

"The Prime Minister intended to go to Metula, but security authorities directed a change in the tour route." Netanyahu was accompanied by Northern Command Officer General Ori Gordin, Division 91 Commander Brigadier General Shai Kleper, and various unit officers as he toured the Lebanese border.

During his visit, Netanyahu conducted a situation assessment with military leaders regarding operational strategies, defense, and offensive plans for ongoing activities in the northern sector. He also met with reserve commanders from the Northern Nahal Brigade (228) to discuss recent combat experiences.

Netanyahu emphasized, "I am at the northern border, witnessing the changes in the skies and on the ground, as well as across the border, where our brave fighters are dismantling Hezbollah's entire underground terrorist network that was prepared for an incursion into the Galilee, potentially resulting in a massacre greater than what we’ve seen in Gaza. That threat has been neutralized."

He further stated, "We are conducting strikes across all of Lebanon. Let me be clear: regardless of any agreement, the key to restoring peace and security in the north—and enabling our residents to return home safely—lies first in pushing Hezbollah beyond the Litani River. The second step will involve countering any efforts to re-arm the organization, and third, we will respond decisively to any threats against us. In straightforward terms: enforcement, enforcement, enforcement, and cutting off Hezbollah's supply lines from Iran via Syria. We are committed to these goals."

Netanyahu also addressed the soldiers directly, praising the contributions of reserve troops: "Our courageous reserve soldiers are vital to our success. They’ve interrupted their lives, left their families, and in some cases, even lost their jobs. They've made sacrifices and lost friends. I’ve spoken with them, and it’s inspiring to see their determination and fighting spirit across all ranks. One general told me, 'We have the right to defend our country. We are making history.' This spirit of sacrifice and heroism deserves our support. They are making tremendous sacrifices for our nation, and it is only right that we honor them."

"That's why I came here on this tour, accompanied by the Director General of the Prime Minister's Office, to develop a national government plan that supports reservists and their families. I declare that their bravery and sacrifices, along with those of our regular soldiers, are fundamental to securing our future and our country."
