Israel's Interior Ministry Director General Ronen Peretz announced on Thursday that he was ceasing all contact and cooperation with Haaretz, after publisher Amos Schocken said that the terrorists were "freedom fighters."

The Director General explained in his letter that he does not intend or can remain silent in the face of this harm to the State of Israel and IDF fighters in times of war: "These remarks arouse disgust and indicate a severe disengagement from basic values, especially at a time when the State of Israel is waging a most just war."

In addition to this statement, Schocken argued that Israel is carrying out a Nakba (ethnic Cleansin) on the Palestinians in Gaza and that sanctions should be imposed on the Prime Minister and Ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir.

The Director General of the Ministry of the Interior emphasized that in light of the seriousness of the matter, and until further notice, "I order the halt of all publications and cooperation with Haaretz newspaper (directly and through the Government Advertising Office)."

Nesher Mayor Roy Levy also announced today that the municipality is severing all ties with Haaretz, following the exposure of the newspaper's publisher, Amos Schocken. "I have informed the municipal spokesman and the treasurer to stop all publication in Haaretz and any newspaper connected with this newspaper," the mayor posted on his X account. "Only a consumer and financial boycott will be beneficial."
