Israel attacks Iran

In Pictures: Israel's unprecedented attack on Iran

In response to Iran's attacks on Israel both directly and via its proxies, Israel launched its own counter attack on military bases in Iran today (Saturday). Iran has downplayed the attacks, and Biden says he hopes that this is the end of the hostilities between Israel and Iran.

Early this morning (Saturday), Israel sent a team of fighter jets and support planes to Tehran to launch its counter attack. This follows a year of Iranian aggression, via their proxies Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis in Yemen, and two of their own direct attacks on Israel using ballistic missiles.

Israel was weighing up attacking their nuclear sites and/or gas and/or oil fields, but as a result of tremendous pressure from the Biden administration, chose to attack their military bases and installations only, thus reducing the chance of another Iranian strike.

At this time, authorities believe that there is a strong chance that Iran will not respond, and that if they do, it will be once again via their proxies and not directly.
