A Palestinian terrorist attempted to carry out a ramming attack this morning (Saturday) on Route 60 near the Ofra settlement in the West Bank. The terrorist accelerated and then collided with a military vehicle that was parked on the side of the road at a checkpoint as part of routine security operations in the area.
Police later stated that the driver was a 27-year-old Palestinian from the Nablus area, who was killed in the incident, and that no police officers were wounded.
In footage later released from security cameras positioned along the road, you can clearly see the magnitude of the miracle and the scale of the disaster that was averted. The soldiers had been next to the military vehicle, along with police officers and a police vehicle beside them.
At one point, the soldiers decided to move a few meters towards the police, and just seconds later, the terrorist crashed into the exact spot where the soldiers had been standing moments before.
The police stated after the attempted attack: "Israel police from the West Bank district were deployed to maintain public safety at the Ofra intersection. Earlier today (Shabbat) a Palestinian terrorist attempted to run over police officers. Local police bomb disposal experts are inspecting the offending vehicle. Police and IDF forces are at the scene."
