Following criticism from both European countries and the UN regarding an IDF tank allegedly penetrating into a UNIFIL position, the IDF released its version of events on the matter today (Sunday).

The statement asserted that "earlier today, a massive fire of anti-tank missiles was fired against IDF foces during activity in southern Lebanon. During the fire, two IDF soldiers were seriously wounded and a number of soldiers were lightly and moderately wounded. Their families were given notice."

The IDF then explained the tank angle: "From an initial inquiry, it turned out that during the incident and in order to evacuate the wounded, two tanks drove backward, where they could not advance otherwise due to the threat of fire, a number of meters towards the UNIFIL position."

"Following the cessation of the fire and the evacuation of the wounded, the tanks left the position. During the incident, covering fire was carried out to ensure safe medical evacuation. IDF forces maintained contact with UNIFIL."

The IDF clarified that "there was no danger throughout the entire incident to the UNIFIL force from IDF activity."
