A man and woman in their 40s were killed today (Wednesday) by a rocket strike in Kiryat Shmona, during a heavy barrage fired from Lebanon earlier this afternoon.

MDA forces who arrived at the scene pronounced them dead on site.

Doron Shenfer, spokesperson for Kiryat Shmona municipality, said this evening on Kan Reshet B: "They were two residents of Kiryat Shmona who recently arrived in the city. They went out with their dogs for an afternoon walk and the rocket caught them, ending their lives in tragic circumstances."

Shenfer described: "There is a siren which lasts for between one to ten seconds, and then a fall. If you are not near a mamad (protected space), the instructions from the Home Front Command are simply to lie flat on the floor and put your hands on the head, that's how you protect yourself from shrapnel and pray there won't be a direct hit."

Shenfer called on those who remained in Kiryat Shmona to leave as soon as possible: "It's easier for us to deal with evacuations than with funerals," he said. "I hope this unfortunate incident will cause those people who are [still] in the city to leave it. know it's hard to live in a hotel room or rented apartment where you don't know anyone, but it's much harder to be in a place where you're not sure you'll continue to live."

Shenfer emphasized that residents of the city will not return to their homes until security is restored to the area: "We will not allow October 7 to happen also in Kiryat Shmona. We see the terrorists, we see the tunnels. Whoever intends to call them to come back home should set a personal example, let him and his family move to live in Kiryat Shmona."
