At a wreath-laying ceremony at the Nova Festival site in memory of the victims of October 7th in Re'im, EU Ambassador to Israel Dimitar Tazanchev said "We, the representatives of the European Union and its member states, gathered here today to mark the anniversary of the deadliest anti-Semitic pogrom since the Holocaust."

EU ambassadors expressed support for the families of the hostages and solidarity with the people of Israel. In a moving and touching ceremony, the EU ambassador to Israel and his counterparts from 26 EU member states joined in laying a wreath at the Nova Festival site in memory of the victims of the brutal terrorist attack carried out by Hamas exactly one year ago.

Gil Haskel, head of the ceremony at the Israeli Foreign Ministry, also spoke at the ceremony. "EU leaders have condemned Hamas for the jihadist pogrom in the strongest terms, and have repeatedly stressed Israel's right to defend itself in accordance with international law," Tazanchev said. "Here, on this site, we, my colleagues and I, were speechless in the face of the brutality of the murders, the horrific acts of sexual violence, the abductions of children and Holocaust survivors. We continue to express our solidarity with the people of Israel during these difficult times." He added in Hebrew: "May you know no more sorrow."

Union ambassadors toured the Nova site in the Reim parking lot. In addition, they met with Magen David Adom (MDA) volunteers Racheli Cohen and Hillel Khodelenko, who spoke about their experiences on that terrible day, the treatment of the casualties and the functioning of the medical and rescue forces during the attack.

"We knew Hamas was training, we knew they had capabilities. But we didn't know it was on such a scale. At the same time, simultaneously, they attacked all the military bases," explained Ilan Isaacson, security officer of the Eshkol Regional Council, who told them about the events of the October 7th.
