Energy Minister Eli Cohen gave an interview to Army Radio today (Sunday), where he said that he was looking for a way to end the "outrageous" maritime gas deal with Lebanon signed by the previous government under Yair Lapid.

Cohen said that "I am looking for a way or a loophole to cancel the outrageous gas agreeement signed with Lebanon. It was a mistake from the start and we will take care to fix it."

The original agreement, signed in 2022 under then-Prime Minister Yair Lapid, involved a maritime border adjustment in Lebanon's favor in exchange for recognition of Israel's claim to the Karish gas field.

Many criticized the deal at the time as being too generous to Lebanon and even an act of surrender to Hezbollah, though Lapid rejected any connection to October 7 and the subsequent war.
