IDF senior officers are reportedly seriously considering adopting the "Eiland Plan" for defeating Hamas in the Gaza Strip, according to Kann News political reporter Michael Shemesh.

The plan calls for the complete evacuation of the remaining residents of northern Gaza - hundreds of thousands of Gazans - southward and turning the entire area into a closed military zone.

Eiland reportedly believes that such a move would place enormous popular pressure on Hamas and its leaders and help to secure a favorable result for Israel in demonstrating the cost of the war both for the populace and for the Palestinians in losing so much territory.

The IDF is reportedly considering adopting the plan or parts of it, though the implementation of such a plan would require government approval, and the degee of government support for such a move remains unknown.
