The Chief of Staff Decides: This Is the Date He Will Retire

According to a report by Channel 12 News, Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi is preparing to retire at the end of December. However, if a war breaks out in the north, the Chief of Staff will remain in his position and not retire.

Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi is expected to announce his resignation from the position in just over three months. According to the Channel 12 report, Halevi is preparing to retire at the end of December. According to Nir Dvori’s report, if a war breaks out in the north, the Chief of Staff will remain in his position to avoid passing the reins to a younger, less experienced individual who would need to manage a war against the Hezbollah terror organization.

Meanwhile, according to journalist Hagai Segal's report in the 'Makor Rishon' newspaper last weekend, Halevi’s associates said he intends to fulfill his promise and retire from the army as soon as it becomes possible. The associates pinpointed the moment Halevi will make the decision and said, "He will go home, there’s no doubt, as soon as he feels he is leaving the army in safe hands."

Today, Brigadier General Yossi Shariel, the commander of Unit 8200, announced his retirement. Shariel was one of the key figures in the intelligence failure that led to Hamas surprising the IDF in the October 7 attack.

IDF Response: Report Lacks Any Basis

In response, the IDF spokesperson stated: "The report regarding the Chief of Staff's expected retirement date is misleading and baseless. The Chief of Staff is currently fully focused on managing the war, leading the IDF in fighting our enemies, and achieving the war objectives."
