Will Sa'ar join the government?

Gideon Sa'ar and Binyamin Netanyahu reportedly met in order to discuss his possibly joining the government, though Netanyahu's entourage opposes his becoming Defense Minister.

According to Walla political reporter Tal Shalev, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and New Right leader Gideon Sa'ar met secretly to discuss his possibly joining the rightwing government.

According to the report, political sources close to the talks claimed Netanyahu and Sa'ar met recently, during the last two weeks. The two discussed the possibility that Sa'ar and members of New Right, which broke off from Benny Gantz's State Camp party to form their own faction, might join the government.

Those sources claim that the talks have thus far not moved, as opposition to Sa'ar's serving as Defense Minister remains the main obstacle in talks, despite reports from the Prime Minister's Office that they want to see Gallant gone from the Defense Ministry.

Netanyahu's office denied the report, while Sa'ar's entourage sufficed by saying "there's nothing new on the matter" while not denying the existence of the meeting, which would appear to be the first one between the two for a long time.
