This time, with lasers: Iron Beam defense system passes important test

The Iron Beam laser-based anti-missile defense system has reportedly passed an important test this week, though the system is not expected to be operational until the end of 2025 at the earliest.

The laser-based Iron Beam defense system passed a significant test on the path to becoming operational on the battlefield, according to a report tonight (Thursday) by Kann News reporter Itay Blumenthal.

Although the system, which is being developed by Israeli defense industries and the IDF, is not expected to be operational until the end of 2025 at the earliest, its progress could be a boon for Israel.

An operational Iron Beam would mean a system which does not need to depend on a constantly renewed stock of interceptor missiles, especially from abroad at a time when more and more countries, such as the United Kingdom, are considering restricting arms sales to Israel.

It would also prove a far less costly option in intercepting the large arsenals of rockets and drones possessed by Hezbollah.
