Deri Tells Netanyahu: The Philadelphi Corridor Vote Was a Major Error

Shas chairman MK Aryeh Deri has conveyed to Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu that the Cabinet’s decision regarding the Philadelphi corridor last Thursday was a significant mistake, according to Kan 11 News reports.

Deri reportedly told Netanyahu, “The vote on Philadelphi was a grave error that restricted our options.” He added, referring to the killing of six hostages, “Given the situation since the vote and the subsequent events, we cannot alter our decision.”

In response, Shas stated, “Deri does not comment on security-related discussions, whether or not the leak is accurate.”

During a press conference on Monday evening, Netanyahu addressed the report and condemned the leaks from Cabinet meetings.

“It is unacceptable that the military censor permits the release of quotes from Cabinet discussions. It is also wrong that there is no law mandating polygraphs, and that legal advisors prevent us from implementing such measures. We will need to propose legislation to address this issue,” Netanyahu said.

He added, “Such leaks are unprecedented in any Western country. We are essentially providing Hamas with information that could be used against us.”
