Following the murder of six hostages by Hamas a few days ago, the International Red Cross released a statement on X today (Monday) calling for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.

After discussing the suffering of the families of hostages both living and dead, the Red Cross stated unequivocally that those held hostage must be released immediately and unconditionally under international law.

They further stated that until then, the Red Cross must be given access to hostages to reestablish contact with their families, provide medical treatment, and see after their welfare.

This statement comes after months of withering criticism from the Israeli government and hostage families themselves towards the Red Cross, according to which the humanitarian organization was making no real effort to find out about their loved ones being held in Gaza or ensure that they receive needed medical treatment.
