Turbulence in Hamas: Yahya Sinwar’s Dramatic Decision

In the wake of reports about the replacement for Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was reportedly eliminated in Iran, Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas leader in Gaza, has conveyed to the organization’s leaders that he has his own candidate for the position.

Shortly after the alleged killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, it was reported that Khaled Meshaal, a senior figure in the organization, is expected to replace him and return to his role as the head of Hamas' political bureau. Some reports indicated that even if Meshaal is appointed, it would only be temporary due to his poor relations with Iran.

In response to the numerous reports about Haniyeh’s successor, the murderous terror organization Hamas issued an official statement addressing these reports. The statement said, "The organization’s leadership has begun extensive consultations within its leadership institutions and the Shura Council to choose a new head of the political bureau, and will announce the results upon completion. The names circulating in the media about the successor to the position are 'baseless.'"

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s Al-Arabiya channel reported that Hamas has started consultations in Qatar to select a temporary successor to Haniyeh until internal elections can be held in a few months. However, Yahya Sinwar has conveyed to the organization’s leaders that he rejects Khaled Meshaal’s appointment and prefers his deputy, Khalil al-Hayya, as the successor. This preference is based on al-Hayya’s better relations with Iran and Syria.
