This morning (Sunday), the military prosecution asked to extend the detention of five of the soldiers suspected in the Field of Yemen case until Wednesday for further investigation. The IDF notes that for the three additional soldiers, the military prosecution at this stage requested to extend their detention by several hours to complete necessary investigative actions. Following this, a decision will be made regarding the continuation of their detention. A hearing regarding the eight suspects is currently taking place, and a decision will be made later today.
Today at 12:00 PM, the suspected fighters are expected to attend a hearing at the military court.
Ahead of the hearing, Attorney Nati Rom from the Honenu organization made an urgent request to the military court to allow the soldiers' families to attend the hearing. Among other things, he wrote: "A state that can tolerate images of mothers of terrorists embracing their damned children in courtrooms can and should make more effort to allow the families of fighters to stand by their children at a time when, unfortunately, they are led to courtrooms."
Attorney Nati Rom stated ahead of the hearing: "Following the military prosecution's declaration that several units are involved in investigating the incident, it seems that the proper balance is to release the fighters to house arrest rather than keeping them behind bars. We hope that the families of the fighters will be allowed to attend the hearing for the first time and meet their loved ones, who, in an exceptional decision, have been denied the opportunity to see them until now."
Attorney Adi Kedar added: "We hope this detention will end soon; it seems that the military prosecution and the courts are still operating in pre-war days and are busy satisfying the command – the military advocate general. The detention of the fighters should end now, and the investigation should continue while they are released."
