Multiple sources, including diplomats and officials, informed Reuters today (Monday) that the United States is racing to prevent Israel from striking the Hezbollah suburb of Beirut or critical civilian infrastructure in retaliation for Hezbollah's attack on Majdal Shams last Saturday, killing over 10 minors.

Meanwhile, Rena Bitter, US Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs at the US Embassy in Beirut, issued a video statement today calling on American citizens in Lebanon to develop a "crisis plan" if one develops.

Bitter advised that those who can leave while commercial planes are still running and local infrastructure and transportation is still intact should do so before a crisis begins. Those who are still in Lebanon if a crisis hits should be prepared to shelter in place for "long periods of time."

Two days have passed since the Hezbollah rocket attack on Majdal Shams killing over 10 children, and one day has passed since the security cabinet authorized Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Gallant to decide what steps to take in response.

Rumors are swirling as to exactly what Israel will do to hit Hezbollah back, but most reports suggest a major strike, and the question remains as to whether it will lead to general war in the north.
