The US Embassy in Beirut issued a travel advisory today (Thursday) to US citizens to "strongly reconsider travel to Lebanon," saying that "the security environment remains complex and can change quickly."

The Embassy further warned US citizens in the country that "the Lebanese government cannot guarantee the protection of U.S. citizens against sudden outbreaks of violence and armed conflict."

Finally, it warned US citizens specifically of travelling to "southern Lebanon, the Lebanon-Syria border area, or refugee settlements."

This advisory comes after multiple countries including Germany, Canada, Kuwait, and others have advised their citizens to leave Lebanon as soon as possible, a sign that war may be imminent in the north.
