eBay is set to lay off dozens of its employees in Israel, primarily from the buyer experience department, as reported by Calcalist. This will be the third series of layoffs for the company in Israel and the fourth worldwide, with one earlier round excluding Israel. The previous round saw an estimated 30 employees lose their jobs.
The company stated, "The changes being made in Israel are part of eBay's global business strategy aimed at providing a more efficient and tailored response to the company's customers. This was a difficult decision, especially considering the situation in Israel. At the same time, the Israeli site continues to be an integral part of eBay's ability to realize its product strategy."
The research and development center of eBay in Netanya began its activities in 2005 after acquiring the price comparison site Shopping.com for around $620 million. Years later, eBay further bolstered its Israeli presence by purchasing Gift Project, though the financial details of that acquisition remain undisclosed.
