Israel-Gaza War

The Gaza "famine" that never was

The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification recently issued a report finding insufficient supporting evidence to suggest a famine occurring in the Gaza Strip.

A week and a half ago, an official UN report examining claims of mass famine in the Gaza Strip submitted its conclusions, which were not mentioned by UN leaders, per which there is too much "uncertainty" and lack of "convergence of supporting evidence" to suggest a famine in the Gaza Strip.

The UN's Famine Review Committee studied the claims of international organizations regarding a state of mass hunger or famine in the Gaza Strip.

In the Conclusions section of the report, committee members said that "The FRC does not find the FEWS NET analysis plausible given the uncertainty and lack of convergence of the supporting evidence employed in the analysis. Therefore, the FRC is unable to make a determination as to whether or not famine thresholds have been passed during April."
