Col. G. assumed her position of Ovda base commander in place of Col. Y., who served in the position for the past two years and was appointed to the position of IDF attaché in Great Britain.

The change of command ceremony was held this late last month, at the Ovda Air Force Base, led by the Air Force Commander, Brigadier General Major Tomer Bar, with the participation of families and other guests.

Air Force Commander, Brigadier General Tomer B.: "From October 7th until today, they were united in this magical place – operational activities, operational continuity, and above all – determined fighters and servicemen, who do everything for the victory in war, to preserve the existence of the State of Israel. Even though we operate tirelessly against our enemy in all faces of combat – both near and far – there is still much work to be done. It requires patience, perseverance, and determination.

"In this war, we are more present than ever, in how our power lies in our ability to fight together, as a team. We will continue to fight, continue to strike our enemy. We will continue to act to return security to the residents of the south and north to be able to live safely in their homes. We will continue to act to bring back the captives: the highest moral directive."

"We look forward to your impact at the commanders' table of the Air Force corps. I am confident and sure that this is a sign of things to come, that in the coming years we will see more and more women influencing and improving the Air Force throughout its length and breadth."

Outgoing commander of the Ovda Air Force Base, Lieutenant Colonel Y. said: "The State of Israel has been at war for almost eight months. I have no doubt that we will win. Not only because we are stronger, more technological, we have tanks and planes and advanced weapons - but thanks to the simple fact that we are fighting for a cause like no other. We will continue as long as it takes to return the abductees to their homes, and the return of security to the settlements in the south and the border of Lebanon.

"Ovda Base plays a significant role in the war effort. The base proves to be a central component in the operation of the Air Force's power, it is a strategic asset for the force and a significant component in its operation. The people of the base, the people of the Negev, are dedicated, committed, determined, and have faith in the righteousness of the path. They work in cooperation, with mutual support, with integrity and humility."

Incoming Base Commander, Lieutenant Colonel G.: "The IDF is fighting and dealing with complex challenges in nearby and distant areas. Our soldiers are fighting a just war, a war for the values and lives we aspire to protect. Military service at this time means that the responsibility placed on our shoulders is greater than ever – in missions, in the commands given to us, in face of our superiors and in front of the citizens of the country. The base is a significant engine in the Air Force's operational capability and consolidates within it unique capabilities and qualifications.

"The people of Ovda, the base will continue to strengthen – you are its driving force – the ability to expand the operational envelope of the force is inherent in each and every one of you. Initiative, cooperation, and the determination to make contact, which you have shown, are also the key to the coming years. We will continue to act for our duty – to be a shield for our people and to ensure the peace of the country's citizens – for us, for our children. That is why we are here."
