Israel-Gaza War, Rafah

Rafah crossing to be opened under Palestinian auspices?

American pressure led to the reopening of Rafah crossing to humanitarian aid. Now Israel is looking into withdrawing IDF forces and letting a Palestinian force take over.

After Defense Minister Gallant told Defense Secretary Austin that he has no objection to opening Rafah crossing, Israel and Egypt have reportedly decided to do so to humanitarian aid, according to Kann News reporter Itay Blumenthal.

This decision comes in the wake of American pressure following the closure of the crossing after the IDF retook the crossing's Gaza side. Israel announced that IDF forces will leave the location and allow its reopening based on operational considerations.

Now the question of who will run the crossing is being debated. Europe and the US refuse to do so. Israel tends towards handing it over to non-Hamas Palestinians.

The US, Israel, and Egypt will hold a meeting next week to discuss the matter.
