Last night (Wednesday/Thursday), Defense Minister Gallant spoke with Defense Secretary Austin regarding the need to defeat Hamas, free the hostages, and ensure the safety of Gazan civilians.

Gallant thanked Austin for his strong stance against the ICC's decision to prosecute him and the Prime Minister for war crimes, which Austin called "outrageous."

For his part, Austin "encouraged the Israeli government to conclude talks with Egypt to reopen Rafah Crossing and resume the flow of aid from Egypt through Kerem Shalom," something which the Israeli government has tried but so far failed to secure.
