Gantz to Netanyahu: Israel needs soldiers, not political stunts

State Camp party leader Benny Gantz sharply criticized Prime Minister Netanyahu's decision to move a Draft Law from Naftali Bennet's term forward: "The temporary bridging law is not relevant to the reality after October 7."

In response to the Prime Minister's decision to advance the Draft Law proposed under the Bennet government, State Camp party chairman Benny Gantz attacked Netanyahu today (Wednesday) and said the law is "not relevant."

In a statement he released, Gantz said: "Mister Prime Minister, the State of Israel needs soldiers and not political stunts which tear the nation apart during wartime. The Israeli service outline agreed upon in the previous government was prepared by the defense establishment as a bridging law and a basis for developing an outline for Israeli service, to get all parts of the nation to serve."

According to him, "the temproary bridging law submitted and which you are seeking to pass now - was not sufficient then, and is not relevant today in the reality after October 7. The time for talk is over - this is the time for deeds. We expect all the leaders of the Charedi parties, the Rabbis and the leaders of the generation to give vocal support for the service of the Charedi public, as the Prime Minister claimed in his statement."

The law in question passed the first vote in Bennet's first government, including draft targets and targets for an annual increase in the number of draftees. The law also includes a proposed reduction in the draft exemption age and shortened regular service alongside participation in job training and national-civil service. In the previous government, Charedi MKs opposed the proposal.
