UN significantly revises number of confirmed women and children killed in Gaza - downward

The UN now differentiates between 24,686 reported by the Hamas-run Gaza Ministry of Health and about another 10,000 reported by the Hamas Government Media Office lacking confirmation.

The UN's OCHA has officially split its reported casualties on the Palestinian side between those identified (24,686 as of April 30) and those reported but unidentified or confirmed by the Hamas-run Ministry of Health.

This means a significant downward revision of the number of confirmed women and children killed in the fighting (e.g., from over 10,000 children reported killed to under 8,000).

The remaining 10,000 are based on reports by the Hamas Government Media Office and have not been identified or confirmed.

This revision comes after months of UN-affiliated organizations and most media outlets reporting Hamas Ministry of Health figures as though known and confirmed.
