The IDF spent the past few weeks preparing two offensive Hamas tunnels for detonation with the help of the Gaza Division's Engineer unit, Southern Command's Engineering Array, the Yahalom combat engineering unit and forces of the Northern Brigade.

One of the tunnels was identified in 2014, when it was used for a raid into Israel. The second is part of the tunnel system as well. Both got close to but did not penetrate Israeli territory.
