Amit Segal reports reason for delay in shuttering al-Jazeera

The Mossad Director's opposition to shuttering the Qatari outlet during sensitive hostage negotiations led a majority to support delaying the decision.

Last night, a planned vote on the shuttering of Al-Jazeera broadcasting in Israel was delayed. Channel 12 reporter Amit Segal said that this was due to opposition from Mossad director Dedi Barnea, who did not want to endanger hostage negotiations.

According to Segal, a number of Likud ministers agreed with the director that leeway was needed during negotiations, which meant that Netanyahu, although he wanted to go to a vote, lacked a majority.

The vote on shuttering al-Jazeera was thus delayed until Sunday.
