Ben Gvir explains why he gave away "secret information" about Iran counter-attack: "I was telling the truth"

Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir explained this morning (Sunday) why he violated military protocol and revealed that Israel was behind the attack in Iran, which he claimed didn't make much of an impact to begin with.

"For the past two days, the media have not stopped attacking me for my tweet from Friday. What did they not claim? That the Iranians are encouraged by it (as if they need me to be aware of what is happening on their own soil)? That the international media used the information I provided (suddenly they care after a whole year of having every word from their demonstration quoted worldwide)? And in general, why can't we just pretend that everything is OK???", he asked.

Ben Gvir later mocked the IDF and Ministry of Defense: "Why not tell everyone that we have already defeated the other side and it has been completely 'deterred???'"

That's when the Minister decided to break Israel's silence on the attack despite being part of the political-security cabinet:

"I have no intention of making up stories to the people of Israel. For years we were told that the IDF was attacking Gaza and destroying significant infrastructure after they fired missiles towards the South, for years we were told (mostly by our "security experts") that Hamas was deterred! In truth, the IDF was bombing empty dunes or unmanned positions and Hamas was not really deterred..." he began.

"The last thing Israel needs is for missile fire from Iran to be answered with soft responses like we have been doing for years against Hamas. Missile fire from Iran must be met with a very strong response, so that such a situation does not happen again."

Ben Gvir said he will probably continue to leak information from cabinet meetings: "I will continue to tell this truth even if it is not always popular and does not align with Biden's messages and with the thought engineers. The people of Israel want victory! We have a wonderful army, heroic soldiers who prove themselves time and time again, who can go anywhere and put their hands on anyone. [We] just have to give the right instructions, and with God's help, we will prevail!!!"
