According to the New York Times, Israel used a weapon equipped with special technology that allowed it to evade the Iranian radar and detection systems, and successfully hit the air defenses near the Natanz nuclear facility.

Two Iranian sources confirmed that the S-300 defense system was indeed hit. According to Western sources, the Israeli attack was intended to send Iran a message that it is capable of penetrating its defense systems and damaging them.

It is also reported that it is not clear what exact weapon was used, but it was at least one missile launched from a fighter jet, and it was clarified that the shooting was not carried out from Israeli, Iranian, or Jordanian airspace. The decision to avoid launching from Jordanian airspace was intended to be a gesture to the Kingdom and to keep it out of the conflict.

Iranian sources also told the New York Times that the country's air defense systems were unable to intercept anything that entered its airspace - missiles, drones, or fighter jets.
