Following the protest turned riot last night (Tuesday) outside the Prime Minister's Residence, the Israel Police issued a statement saying that at no point during the anti-Netanyahu protest did protestors reach the entrance or pose a threat the Prime Minister and his family.
The Police also rebuffed charges of using to much force in handling protestors, noting that the throwing of a torch towards police and breaking down police barriers does not fall under legitimate protest or freedom of speech.
Chairman of the New Hope - United Right party MK Gideon Sa'ar referred to anti-war demonstrations in Jerusalem and claimed that they serve Prime Minister Netanyahu's agenda.
During a conference of the Union of Municipal Corporations in Eilat, Sa'ar said: "Last night's demonstrations are a tremendous asset for Netanyahu." At the same time, Sa'ar also criticized the violent protest. "Whoever throws torches at police, whoever breaks into a security compound and storms it with torches in their hands is wrong", he noted.
"We have to uphold the law no matter who is doing the protesting," continued Sa'ar. "It does not serve any purpose. Certainly in times of war we need to conduct debates among ourselves differently. Yesterday this wasn't the case and that is why I denounced it."
