The Knesset plenum passed a law proposal to expel terrorist’s families submitted by Otzmah Yehudit MK Almog Cohen on a preliminary vote, 17-6. The proposal will now be sent to the Knesset Committee, which will determine which committee will discuss the proposal before a first vote.

According to the proposal, the Interior Minister may order the expulsion of a relative of a terrorist subject to a hearing, if they knew of their intention to commit an act of terror in advance, expressed support for or identification with the terrorist act, or if they published praise, admiration, or encouragement of the terrorist act.

The Terrorists Only Worry About Their Family

The explanatory preamble for the proposal writes: Terror knows no limits, laws, or red line, and we must therefore find new and extreme tools to fight it. From various studies done by the National Security Council and by the IDF over the years in the matter of dozens of suicide terrorists, it was found that the suicide terrorists’ only fear was what would become of their family members after the attack.”

It further noted that “there is no doubt that in expelling members of the nuclear family, the deterrence package deterring terrorists will be completed and will make relatives of terrorists want to prevent their children from carrying out this attack. The expulsion of terrorists’ family members will save the lives of Israeli citizens with a view to the future.”
