IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari made a statement to the media this evening (Tuesday), in which he referred to the events of the past day in the war in the Gaza Strip - including the tunnel explosion disaster that resulted in the death of six fighters.

The IDF spokesman opened his remarks by referring to the difficult incident in the Al-Boreij area and explained that a significant underground infrastructure was uncovered in the area in which was the largest factory identified so far for the production of rockets within the Strip. During the operations to destroy the facility "an explosion was caused by the firing of a tank that detected an enemy target in the area", which apparently caused the explosion of the munitions that were prepared inside the underground infrastructure and caused an early explosion on the spot that killed several soldiers and injured others.

The IDF spokesman revealed that 14 soldiers were injured in the incident itself, and thanked the hospitals in Israel for the dedicated and life-saving care they provided to all the wounded in the war.

Hagari went on to review what is happening on the northern front against Hezbollah in Lebanon and announced that the IDF takes responsibility for the assassination of the senior Hezbollah official in southern Lebanon. According to Hagari, the IDF killed Ali Hossein Barji, commander of the southern Lebanon area in the unit, using an Air Force aircraft. Ali led dozens of operations using explosive and collection drones against Israel and the IDF forces, and even the attack on the Northern Command headquarters earlier today.

The IDF spokesman pledged that the security system will not rest until it brings about a different security situation on the northern border, and called on citizens in the conflict zones to continue to obey the directives of the Home Front Command.

He later addressed the issue of the abductees held captive by Hamas and announced that they have not forgotten for a moment about the 136 abductees held captive by the terrorist organization, and announced that the security agencies have full responsibility to return them home and that there is a moral responsibility for all the countries of the world to bring about their release.
